Portugal in November and December: what to do
The cooler months are when Portugal's cellars, workshops and historic towns are at their calmest — and every private day we run operates all year.
November and December are good months for private touring in Portugal. Wine cellars, cheese-making and tile-painting workshops, cork and pottery ateliers, and historic towns such as Sintra, Tomar, Coimbra and Évora all operate year-round, with fewer visitors than in summer.

Cellars, not crowds
Wine days are at their best in the cooler months. In Arrábida and Azeitão, family cellars and tasting rooms are quiet, and lunch stretches without a queue. The Alentejo adds cork oak plains, pottery workshops and talha wine cellars in Évora — all indoor-friendly stops that suit a shorter day.
Hands-on days: cheese, tiles, cork and pottery
Winter is workshop season. You can make Azeitão cheese with the people who produce it, paint your own azulejo tile in a working atelier, or spend a day with cork and pottery artisans. These days are private to your party and run in every month of the year.
Historic towns without the queues
Sintra's palaces, the Templar convent in Tomar, Coimbra's university and the sanctuary of Fátima are all open through autumn and winter, and noticeably calmer than in high season. A private car and driver means weather never decides your day — the route adapts, and you are collected at your address.
