South of the bridge, a different country.
Cross the 25 de Abril Bridge and the road turns inland through cork and pine before the Arrábida Natural Park opens up: limestone mountains falling straight into turquoise water, small unguarded beaches, and the wine village of Azeitão sitting quietly at the center of it. It is the closest serious wine country to Lisbon, and still the least crowded. Most visitors drive north to Sintra. The ones who turn south get the coast almost to themselves.
Market, cellars, a long lunch, then the light.
The day opens at Setúbal's Livramento market — 145 years old, still the town's kitchen at eight in the morning: fish, cheese, bread, noise. From there we climb to family wineries — 2 included, up to 4 when tailored — in Azeitão, where the pours are generous and the person pouring usually shares a surname with the barrel. Lunch is Portuguese and unhurried, which is to say it is part of the day rather than a pause in it. Afterwards, an optional close — Cristo Rei for the Lisbon panorama, or Sesimbra Castle when the Atlantic light is worth the detour.

Group Arrábida tours tend to manage one winery and a rushed table. Private means hotel pickup, your own driver-guide, and the freedom to linger where the day asks for it — an extra cellar, a swim at Galápos, a longer walk on Sesimbra's castle walls.
