Évora — Roman Portugal, still standing.
Ninety minutes east of Lisbon, Évora is a UNESCO World Heritage city inside medieval walls. The Roman temple stands in the middle of it, the cathedral looks over the plains, and the Chapel of Bones remains one of the most unusual interiors in Europe. Sintra — royal Portugal in the mist.
Sintra's estates were built by kings and eccentrics on a forested hill that makes its own weather. Pena Palace sits above the treeline in colour; Quinta da Regaleira hides initiation wells and grottoes below ground; the Moorish Castle ruins trace the ridge. Talha wine — heritage you can taste.

Azeitão and Setúbal — working heritage, not museum heritage.
Closer to Lisbon, the Setúbal Peninsula preserves living traditions rather than monuments: the tile workshops of Azeitão, the sheep's cheese made the same way for centuries, Moscatel cellars with generations of casks, and the Livramento market under its azulejo panels. It is heritage you eat and drink rather than photograph.

Pick one anchor — Évora, Sintra, or a talha cellar — and let everything else be light. Heritage days fail when they become three monuments and a rushed lunch.
