Seeing Arrábida from the Water
The Arrábida coast looks good from the road. From a boat, inside the coves, it looks like somewhere else entirely.
The day starts at a market, not a marina.
Mercado do Livramento in Setúbal is tiled floor to ceiling and still the place the local fish goes first thing in the morning. It sets the tone for a day led by the sea, and it is a short drive from there into the Arrábida Natural Park.
Into the park by road, then out on the water.
The park road climbs through green hills with the bay opening below, and the coastal boat tour leaves from Sesimbra. There are three boat options, so the ride can be a short coastal cruise or a longer discovery route with lunch on board.

Back on land, Sesimbra is a working fishing village — harbour seafood, an easy stroll, and a ninth-century clifftop castle above it. Late afternoon runs out to Cabo Espichel, a wind-exposed cape with a lighthouse and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Cape, which is where the light is best.

- The boat does not go out. Your guide reroutes the day along the coast road, the Sesimbra castle and Cabo Espichel instead, so the day still happens.
- Can we swim?
- Usually yes, conditions permitting — swimming, snorkelling or simply drifting in the coves. Bring swimwear and a light layer.
